The history up to 1955
In 1948, the culture of life in the fields and the mercantile inclination of the North East were brought together by the Legislative Decree that established the Consorzio Zai.
The original Agro-industrial Zone of Italy was to be founded in the area immediately to the South of the town centre where, since 1926, the Magazzini Generali (General Warehouse company) had been operating. The Agricultural Fair moved in the same year to the area which became known as Zai Storica, becoming one of the sector’s most important world exhibitions and giving the area an international air. In the mid 1950s, it was thought opportune to introduce activities not linked to agricultural production into the area as complementary to a constantly developing economy. A happy decision, accompanied by policies for helping and giving credit to the traders and craftsmen to encourage their moving to the area. In 1955 Zai storica, also known as Zai Uno (Agro-industrial Zone 1), housed
42 companies distributed over a total of
230,000 square metres.
